Student Spotlights

  • Zach Morris Headshot

    Zach Morris

Zach originally hails from Jacksonville, Florida. He began acting in the 5th grade (age 8-9) and ever since, he's wanted to be on stage or, as he would discover later on in high school, in movies. 🎥

After graduating high school, he moved to Los Angeles and began attending the New York Film Academy for a Bachelor’s Degree in Acting for Film. While attending school, he also began to seek out and book small gigs here and there.

Since working with Kate, he's definitely noticed a stronger sense of self-confidence, which ultimately helped improve his work and, subsequently, improved his chances of booking (slightly) bigger roles each time. 💪

THEN, came along his first big, “short” film production. I've always told him- “Submit, submit, submit!” And one day it payed off: the casting team wanted to see some more! The day came and he showed up, did the thing, and left. He called me and was like, “I don’t know…but it seemed like it went really good…” Within a few days, he got another email in which they offered him the role!

Sadly, his “big, little break” had to wait. Quarantine came and pushed the shooting day back…further…and further…. Eventually they got everyone back together (safely, of course), and finished the film! 🎬

Since then he's been in two music videos, have had some big auditions, and, even got a Manager before he graduated college! Now that he's done with school, he's been spending his days applying and submitting himself to projects, balancing work, and recently, has been performing at a summer camp out in Pasadena! 👏🏻

  • Shayna Ikeda

Meet Shayna. She is 19 and was born in New York and raised in Peru, where most of her family is from. 🇵🇪⁣

In middle school she had to do plays, which she immediately found love for and she also started going on Youtube to watch movies in English so she could keep practicing the language. ⁣

The content she was watching was mainly acting related, which along with growing up with two brothers and a dad who loves movies, made her realize that’s what she wanted to do. More than that, what really did it for her was the comfort and personal connection she found in watching shows and movies. It became her favorite part of the day when she wasn’t going through the easiest time. 😌⁣

Her goal is to do the same for others that might also feel overwhelmed and need a break from everything going on in their lives, or that just feel lonely, in general. Additionally, it's important to her to represent the latino community within the industry. ⁣

So, she applied for a film school in LA (NYFA) 🎥 and got a scholarship for her audition, but this had to put on hold for a year because of COVID. Again, that was a blessing in disguise, because otherwise she wouldn’t have met Kate, who Shayna thinks is incredible!⁣

Since working with Kate and moving to LA for college, Shayna has learned a lot about herself and what she can do. Kate has helped her explore a variety of roles she could play based on her looks and works on her biggest challenges when it comes to acting. ⁣

She plans to continue working towards her goals, enjoying the process and feeling very blessed to be surrounded by the amazing people helping her do so. 🤍

  • Rhianna Sammut

Meet Rhianna. She is 19 and was born and raised in New Forest, Hampshire, England. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 She’s also the recipient of the 2021 Kate Melton Coaching scholarship program!⁣

When she was 3 months old, she became really ill and at 13 years old she got the diagnosis of Systemic Mastocytosis (amongst other rare conditions).⁣

Rhianna always loved music, watching TV shows and movies (especially Scooby-Doo and WWE), they helped her through her hospital appointments. Wrestling commentary became a dream of hers along with acting.⁣

Before she was home-schooled, she wasn’t allowed to take part in school plays. Rhianna would always audition but teachers used her condition as a reason to not let her participate. Despite this, she was given a chance to do a couple of professional pantomimes at a theatre and she always pushed through, giving it her best.⁣

Back in 2019, she was granted a make-a-wish where she went to Florida, met Stephanie McMahon and spent time with the wrestlers 🤼‍♂️ of NXT. It was incredible and after being given a chance at recording some commentary, Stephanie put in ⁣

place the opportunity for her to get training and feedback which is when Kate and Rhianna met!⁣

In the words of Rhianna: ⁣

"As my training with WWE continues and my acting career progresses, I know I can always go to Kate for help and enjoy the whole process and work on the things I need to most. I feel so grateful to have Kate and so many supportive people in my life, cheering me on and looking out for me! I just hope that one day I can help others in a similar position as I am, who watch me act/commentate and help them reach for the stars!" 🌟

  • Mckenzie Hays

⁣Looking for a positive activity during quarantine last year, @mckenzie.e.hays tried Kate’s private coaching class via zoom. One class led to two per week, then three and even a summer camp experience. 🤩⁣

She was hooked on the creative, fun and passionate world of creating characters and learning to portray them in a believable manner that Kate had taught her- “I am not myself ‘acting’ like the character, instead, I just behave as I would in that character’s situation.” ⁣

McKenzie loves her classes with Kate and has even shared that, in school, she is a much more confidant reader now thanks to the cold reading skills she's learned. ⁣

She recently moved from New Orleans to Honolulu ✈ and she signed with @kathymulleragency to represent her in Hawaii. @kdtalent serves as her manager in Los Angeles.

  • Brianna

    Meet Brianna 🇵🇷! ⁣

She is 19 years old and was born and raised in the Big Apple, New York. Growing up she always found interest in different activities such as dance, singing, acting, MMA, ballet, and swimming. She's also found interest in watching shows and movies and paying attention to the details of how the actors portray the characters. 📺⁣

Brianna has always had a passion for acting but never really took action towards it till she started class with Kate in February!⁣

Kate has helped her achieve more confidence in acting and life, in general! Kate has also taught her to be bold and to take chances. When joining Kate's class, instead of feeling like one of her students, she felt as if she had just joined a family. Kate has been such a great coach and amazing support in her life. 💖⁣

Brianna's goal is to be able to make a living doing what she loves and eventually help her family out with all types of things. She wants to be the first in her family to switch things up and be different, instead of going the traditional route. ⁣

It's important to her to try to help get more Latino representation in films and shows and she plans to continue to work towards her goals and never give up.

  • Owen Trumbley

Owen Trumbly is 13 years old and lives in Oklahoma City, OK where he was born and raised. In addition to acting he enjoys cross country, baseball ⚾, going to the lake and spending time with his friends and family. ⁣

Owen developed a love and passion for movies and film at a very young age. He could tell you in early elementary years all about a film, who the cast was and who directed and produced it. 🎬⁣

He works really hard to prepare/practice weekly, but for him it never feels like work because he truly loves it so much. He had the lead role of “hero boy” in the Polar Express Live Train Show in 2019 and has been cast in various commercials, including one that aired during the 2020 Super Bowl 🏉⁣

Owen met Kate while attending a weekend workshop several years ago and has been coached by her ever since. The growth and development in those 2 years has been quite extraordinary! ⁣

His confidence and skill set just keep flourishing the more he works with her. He has become so much more comfortable in his own skin and getting out of his comfort zone in his auditions over time. ⁣

Kate has really played an intricate role in prepping him for a great number of auditions recently. We feel so blessed to have her expertise and advice through this exciting journey! 🤩

  • Sabrina Thompson Photo

    Sabrina

Meet 14 year old Sabrina! She was born and raised in Delaware but is half British (as her mother was born in England).⁣

Sabrina loves the arts. She has been dancing 👯 since she was 2 years old and praise dancing at her church. She joined her dance studio when she was only 3 years old and has been competing since she was age 5.⁣

Sabrina was first introduced to acting when she was 9 years old, which is when she took her first acting lesson. Soon after, at age 10, she had the opportunity to play a little sister in a sizzle for a tv show called “See you soon,⁣ Roman.”

She instantly fell in love with acting. Unfortunately, she was unable to continue lessons as she was already busy with dancing, gymnastics, horseback riding, and piano lessons 🎹.⁣

During the COVID-19 quarantine, Sabrina decided to get back into acting since the pandemic caused her to take a break from dancing. That’s when her mother found Kate Melton’s Zoom acting lessons. ⁣

    Sabrina says: ⁣

“Kate is amazing! She has helped me grow so much in the little amount of time I have been fortunate to work with her. She taught me how to fully embody the character I am playing and is always ready to help me prepare for my acting roles and submissions. I have booked roles as a dance student, movie store clerk, and Jedi Trainee since Kate began coaching me. I love to act because it’s a way to escape the outside world and become someone else, while creating something amazing for other people to watch and enjoy.” ⁣

Sabrina has loved action movies since her father introduced her to Marvel movies when she was 10 years old. It is her dream to one day star in an action movie. 🎬

  • Lacey Caroline Headshot

    Lacey Caroline

Lacey is a true entertainer born in Charlotte, NC to a family of performers. She settled her focus on acting and flourished in Charlotte community theatre. It was in one of her first productions that her natural talent was noticed and she was referred to a local agent. 🎬⁣

⁣Lacey’s big break came with her being cast as Mariah in the 2019 Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, ❤ A Christmas Love Story 🎄 starring Kristin Chenoweth. Soon thereafter she was named the NASCAR on NBC Kid Reporter, which led to additional guest host and reporter jobs with the NBA, NBC, NASCAR, and the Supercross Series. 🏁⁣

⁣Lacey’s performance in short film “Beyond the Yard” won her 🏆 Best Actress 🏆 at the 2021 Made in Carolinas Film Contest - the first time in contest history that this award has⁣

gone to a youth actor; and she also received the 2021 Blaine Miller Filmmaker of the Year award from the Carolina Film Community. ⁣

⁣Lacey met and began working with Kate after they found each other during the 2021 Young Artist Awards. Since their first coaching session, Lacey has had numerous call backs and landed the role of Dorinda in "Spelling Bee" for Ugly Stik. 🙌🏻⁣

⁣Kate has helped Lacey develop an incredible level of confidence and focus on character development for each audition. We have seen a drastic improvement in her performances and Lacey works with her weekly, either on auditions or in weekly private classes.⁣

⁣Lacey says that Kate is her coach for life and we are so excited to see how she continues to develop, both as an actor and as a person with Kate's guidance and love. 💖
